Botswana Diamonds (LON:BOD) said Tuesday its associated firm Vutomi had received permission to sell diamonds recovered during a bulk sampling programme at the Thorny River project, in South Africa.

The 256 carats of rough diamonds to be sold by Vutomi, in which Botswana Diamonds holds a 40% interest, are expected to generate short-term cash flow to further develop the project.

Last year, Botswana completed Thorny River’s technical and economic study, which indicated potentially positive economics using the top end of the 46-74 carats per hundred tonnes grade and $120-$220 per carat value ranges.

Botswana, which was overtaken by Russia as the world’s top diamond producing country in 2014, is grappling with aging mines, as well as power and water shortages.

Still, the nation is home to some of the world’s most prolific diamond mines, including Lucara Diamond’s (TSX:LUC) Karowe operation, where the now-famous Lesedi la Rona, the second-largest gem-quality diamond to ever be found, was unearthed in 2016.

Besides diamonds, the country also produces nickel, copper, coal and iron ore.

Its the same all over the world.[1] With expectations of Central Bank rate cuts over the next several years.

It is not only the USA that has a sagging yield curve, almost country with a powerful Central Bank has a sagging yield curve. As an example, this chart compares the USA (blue) with Canada (green) and the UK (red). Japan (orange). Denmark (green) and Germany (purple) have sagging curves that are also negative at tenors of less than 15 years. If we believe the expectations model of the yield curve, we are expecting interest rate cuts for 3-5 years.

globalcurves

Now turning to Latin America. Of course, Venezuela (blue) is steeply downward sloping along with Argentina (green). Chile, Mexico and Brazil maintain normalized yield curves. Venezuela and Argentina are examples are liquidity models of the yield curve.

Lastly, there is the preferred habitat theory where Central Banks like The Federal Reserve, the ECB and Bank of Japan reside … with a vengeance .. at the short-end of the yield curve.

Sarine Technologies Ltd. announced the launch of the Sarine Diamond Journeyâ„¢, an official partners' program with select diamond midstream suppliers.

Following the Sarine Diamond Journeyâ„¢ provenance tracking program's launch earlier this year, significant interest has been expressed by retailers interested in sourcing Sarine Diamond Journey documented goods. One of the major advantages of sourcing Journey documented diamonds is that retailers can then source these from a broad selection of suppliers and not be dependent on only a certain supplier with its own individual traceability program. In addition, the Sarine Diamond Journey is based on actual verifiable imagery and information rather than declarative statements.

The next step was for Sarine to launch Sarine Diamond Journey Official Partners program which initially comprises of select diamond manufacturers that will be able to supply goods meeting the retailers' criteria. Suppliers participating in the program have implemented the required manufacturing processes in order to generate a continuous supply of Sarine Diamond Journey diamonds to the market.

Each diamond that will have undergone the process can subsequently be supplied with a Sarine Diamond Journey provenance report that is accessible 24/7 from Sarine's secure cloud. [1]

The Diamond Journey report includes a digital, interactive and visual documentary of the diamond's journey from its rough form to finished polished diamond or even to the set jewelry piece. It enables consumers to appreciate the unique story of each diamond, while being confident in the authenticity of the information generated by Sarine's technological solution. In addition, a 3D-printed model of the rough diamond, from which the polished diamond was derived, can optionally be supplied, adding another engaging layer to the experience.

Money Velocity and Economic Growth

After rising to 2.198 in Q3 1997, the ratio of US Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to money supply M2 fell to 1.433 by Q3 2017. Since then the ratio has bounced slightly to 1.457 in Q1 2019. Economists label this ratio as the velocity of money.

Some experts regard the steep decline in the ratio as an ominous sign for the economy in the months ahead since it raises the likelihood of a sharp decline in the growth rate of prices.

This in turn raises the likelihood of price deflation and in turn of a severe economic slump. It is also held that a fall in the ratio raises the likelihood that monetary injections by the Fed are going to become ineffective in the event that the US central bank will attempt to revive the economy once it falls into an economic slump.

What is the rationale behind this way of thinking?

The Popular View of Money Velocity

According to popular thinking, the idea of velocity is straightforward. It is held that over any interval of time, such as a year, a given amount of money can be used repeatedly to finance people's purchases of goods and services.

The money one person spends for goods and services at any given moment can be used later by the recipient of that money to purchase yet other goods and services. For example, during a year a particular ten-dollar bill can be used as follows: a baker John pays ten-dollars to a tomato farmer George. The tomato farmer uses the ten-dollar bill to buy potatoes from Bob who uses the ten-dollar bill to buy sugar from Tom. The ten-dollars here served in three transactions. This means that the ten-dollar bill was used three...

The CNBC network reported earlier this month that Costco had sold a $400,000 diamond ring to a consumer. The choice of the customer to purchase a platinum ring at this price at Costco, a warehouse retailer, is in itself unusual and therefore it made the news. The ring is set with a round brilliant of 10.03 carat, VS1 clarity, I color.

"Sales highlights for the quarter included some significant diamond purchases, one in the $400,000 range and big-ticket items like golf simulators that sold for $14,000 each, which we sold during the fine pay period," Costco's CFO Richard Galanti told analysts on a call.

Costco is well-known for selling groceries and household items in bulk, according to Business Insider. The warehouse retailer also has a loyal customer base and does a good job keeping that base. It is able to do so because it can afford to have low margins on what it sells as it makes most of its profits off membership fees, Business Insider wrote. "It also prides itself in offering a treasure-hunt experience, which is hard to replicate online."...
