(IDEX Online) – Organizers of the Bharat Diamond Week at the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) in Mumbai, India, are gearing up for the inaugural show which takes place from April 23-25. And ahead of the international diamond week, preparations are in full swing for a cricket tournament that will be taking place from April 8-15, in the run-up to the Bharat Diamond Week.<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /?>

"There is a carnival atmosphere at the bourse, with all eyes on the cricket tournament and the Bharat Diamond Week that will follow," said Bharat Diamond Bourse Vice-President Mehul Shah, who is heading the Diamond Week project. "The tournament can be followed online via Zooter app or Facebook, as well as on 30 screens in the bourse buildings. We are expecting 50,000 to 100,000 people to follow the tournament."

Mr Shah said there is a large ongoing interest in participating in the show, both from Indian and foreign firms. "We are scrutinising each registration using Know Your Customer to ensure that we only accept genuine applications. That way we are sure to have only visitors/buyers who are a perfect fit for our 150 exhibitors who will be displaying their polished goods."

BDB President Anoop Mehta said: "We are incredibly busy with preparations because we are determined to ensure that our first show will set the stage for those that will follow. Our aim is to hold two Bharat Diamond Week shows annually."

Mr Mehta added that there will be a gala dinner event sponsored by Brussels Airlines, with the airline offering Business Class tickets in a raffle that will be held...

Flawless white diamonds, among largest ever offered, to go on sale

Two flawless white diamonds each weighing in at more than 50 carats are expected to fetch more than $15 million when they are auctioned in May, auctioneers Sotheby's Diamonds said on Friday.

The diamonds, a 51.71 carat round brilliant-cut gemstone and a 50.39 carat oval, are the second-largest of their respective kinds ever to come to auction, Sotheby's said.

The sale of the gemstones, discovered and purchased at tender in Botswana, comes after a 102 carat white diamond sold to an undisclosed buyer in February far exceeded the price paid per carat for any colourless diamond at auction, according to auctioneers, who did not reveal the price paid.

The record price previously paid was for a 118 carat diamond sold in Hong Kong in 2013, which fetched $260,000 a carat.

Sotheby's also said it was auctioning "The Farnese Blue," a roughly 6 carat blue diamond given to the Queen of Spain, Elisabeth Farnese, in 1715, which auctioneers said had been passed down through four European royal families since then.

All three of the diamonds are scheduled to be auctioned in Geneva in May. (Writing by Mark Hanrahan in London Editing by David Holmes)

From $1,375 to $1,796: The Beckoning Upside Gold Price Chart Gap

There has been a serious lid on gold price rallies for three years now. But with every attempt at breaking through the $1,360-$1,375 level, the subsequent low gets higher.

This is what is generally referred to as a ‘coiled spring.’ Buying pressure steps in, again and again, at higher and higher lows. Eventually, that pressure meets the selling at the top end of the range.

Then, fireworks.

Gold prices have chopped higher since bottoming in December 2015. The move has not been as exciting as precious metals bulls would like but it has followed a trend of higher lows nonetheless.

image

During the same time frame, Gold has tested the $1360 – $1375 price level on multiple occasions – see resistance line at (1).  This action has created a compression pattern that is creating pressure to the upside. This pattern is known as an ascending triangle and would be very bullish for gold IF prices can breakout ABOVE current resistance at $1375.

If gold does break out to the upside, a measured move price objective of $1796 could be reached – see line at (2).

If Gold would happen to break above resistance, it would send a bullish message to Gold bulls they haven’t seen in the past 5-years! What gold does at (1) will be important for Silver and Gold mining stocks!

Diamond Empowerment Fund Launches New ‘Do Good’ Story

(IDEX Online) – The Diamond Empowerment Fund (DEF), through its Diamonds Do Good nomenclature, launched a profile of Okavango Diamond Company’s Youth Entrepreneurship Programme (ODC-YEP) on DiamondsDoGood.com.<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /?>

The program is designed to expose youth in Botswana to the diamond value chain and provide formal entrepreneurship training to assist them in exploring and developing their entrepreneurial ambitions, the DEF said.

“Entrepreneurship has been identified as part of a number of solutions to address unemployment in Botswana,” said ODC’s Managing Director Marcus Ter Haar, who is a board member of the Diamond Empowerment Fund. “It is important for us as stakeholders in the industry to do all in our power to ensure the success of the country in which we do business and the people that live there.”

The story will be targeted to millennials through the social media based Diamonds Do Good Initiative.

Research shows 75% of consumers say they are more likely to purchase a diamond after reading positive stories about how the industry gives back, the DEF said. “Putting forward a positive narrative surrounding diamonds is essential,” says DEF president and GIA senior vice president Anna Martin. “Sharing these stories with our customers is not only good for business, it is a responsibility for the entire industry.”

More examples of how the industry gives back will be highlighted at this year’s Diamonds Do Good Gala in Las Vegas on May 31 with honorees Bruce Cleaver, CEO De Beers, and Canada’s Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT). Cleaver is being recognized for De Beers' work in accelerating women’s...

360º Double Hoop Earring, by Delfina Delettrez

The 360º Double Hoop Earring is part of the designer's Autumn-Winter Collection, which draws inspiration from both the ancient and the hypermodern.

The pearls and precious stones are not set with the traditional claw technique. Instead, they're pierced through the gold bands, giving the illusion of being suspended in space.

The illusion of suspension given by the double hoop construction is what makes this earring so original. The piece is made of 18-karat gold and two delicate freshwater pearls, displaying Delfina's signature logo on the pearl settings.

Although gold and pearl stand as our favorite combination for the day, there are also other beautiful interpretations of the same model, where pearls are replaced by precious aquamarine, amethyst, and peridot, and yellow gold gives place to white and pink gold.

Pearls are one of the jewelry trends for fall 2017, reinvented in large shapes and new settings, as seen on the runways of Chanel, Mulberry, Gucci, Ellery or Oscar de la Renta.

Delfina Delettrez Fendi is an Italian based jeweler and designer, best known for her unique aesthetic, based on natural iconography and figurative surrealism. The handmade pieces mix classical goldsmith techniques and hyper-realism to create futuristic, unique pieces.
