(IDEX Online) - Grading reports by the IGI on lab-grown diamonds will now include details of post-growth treatments.

The lab says previous reports have indicated only that lab-growns "may include post-growth treatments to alter color".

Thanks to advances in technology it says it can now it can confidently state whether a diamond was "as grown" or may have been treated. 

For untreated CVD) and High HPHT diamonds, the new reports will outline the individual growth process and indicate specifically that the stones are "as grown with no indication of post-growth treatment."  

For the other CVD-created diamonds, the reports will note that they "may include post-growth treatment."

The International Gemological Institute, which has 18 laboratories globally, said it was proud to offer customers a new level of transparency in its reporting. 

It has been grading lab-grown diamonds since 2005 and says it hopes to expand it service in the near future to include fancy-color lab-growns....
