(IDEX Online) - The GIA is offering $1m in scholarships to help students embark on careers in the gem and jewelry industry.

It has awarded more than $14m in scholarships since 2010, helping more than 3,000 students study on-campus and through distance education programs.

"To meet the challenges of the pandemic, we are adapting to provide education that positions students for success within the gem and jewelry industry," said Duncan Pay, Gemological Institute of America's vice president and chief academic officer. 

The scholarship application period was postponed while the GIA to assessed how to effectively deliver programs and courses during the pandemic. 

Its schools in Carlsbad, California, USA, and Mumbai, Surat and New Delhi, in India, remain closed because of coronavirus, but others worldwide have re-opened.

Applications from US and international students will be accepted until 15 October for all courses, programs and classes starting before 31 December 2021....
